These kinds of tutorials would be a perfect content of a MESS wiki ... if anybody cared. Why don't we just make use of it again?
Personally I've been holding off, waiting for a Wayback Machine refresh which is due around the end of this month, it may be possible to pull some more of the old pages out of that.
