Yeah. I'm a little fuzzy on the behavior of the real machine since bitsavers has no sun3x manuals (just original sun3) but apparently real h/w doesn't even try to enable the framebuffer/CRT until POST passes. The sun3 manuals indicate that without a serial console you get to watch the diagnostic LEDs and that's it.
Also the fact that it's running that set of tests apparently means it thinks I have the normal/diagnostic mode switch set to "diagnostic", so that's something to check out.
And for the benefit of OG I should mention our 82077 actually fails the test in the PROM, but they load the address of the "failure" string and then immediately overwrite it with "success" so I'm not sure it's a reliable test
