The AM7990 "LANCE" was indeed used all over the place, including a bunch of PC ISA cards. The test for it in the sun3x boot PROM consists entirely of reading the registers and seeing if a bus error occurs, so for MESS purposes I didn't have to do anything yet. Obviously once we can boot an OS, getting it online will be interesting.
