Create a new disk image as an MFI, you should be able to write to that. You should be able to write to an XDF or DIM image, but changes aren't likely to be saved when you exit MESS.
Sorry, but the MFI doesn't work either. Try to format an MFI disk in HumanOS and it will pop up an error.
